Road trip : Nice, Monte Carlo

In April we took off for a ten day, 3000 km road trip through Italy, France and Spain. Our first stop was Nice- about a 6 hour drive from Zurich. We left early to avoid the rush at the Gotthard tunnel, caught breakfast on the way and reached Nice in time for lunch. Never mind that we were too late for any restaurant and had to finally make do with Macdonalds and can you believe it the Mac in france has no veggie burger! Am spoilt after Zurich.

The day we reached Nice was a rainy day so we just walked about a bit on the promenade, the girls picked up some pebbles, we walked through the market and headed back to the hotel. The best part about Nice was our hotel- it had a lovely view of the Azure coast, we were right next to the lookout point with  a panoramic view of the coast, and they had upgraded us to a suite as the hotel was underbooked (possibly due to the rains!).

The next day we had better luck with the weather and we set off for Juan Le Pin (in Antibes) which was the closest sandy beach. The water was too cold for the girls to venture in though the hubby had a good swim. I just lay on the sand and looked out at the beautiful sea while the girls were busy with their sand toys.

After an afternoon siesta back in our Nice hotel we set off for Monte Carlo in the evening. Aren't the siestas the best part of a vacation!

The drive is just beautiful. Through the mountains, overlooking the sea and the small islands. The curves are quite steep though, it must be really exciting during the Grand Prix (its an F1 track).

We just walked around the city a bit,  and went for dinner to a restaurant Le Penede in Cap D'ail. It was highly recommended, and the location was amazing. You had to drive through some isloated roads in the pitch dark and finally when you think you have reached the back of beyond you come across the restaurant at the tip of the sea with the sea surrounding you all around.

We rounded off the evening with a bottle of wine on the balcony of our hotel room, looking at the  moonlight shining on the sea. Suddenly images of the book Rebecca with the husband drowning Rebecca in a moonlit sea came to mind, don't ask me why!
